As an Essex wedding photographer, I am lucky enough to meet many of the bride and grooms that I photograph through referrals from other wedding photography or portrait photography that I do. However, to widen the reach of the people that I deal with, each year we attend two or three Essex wedding fayres, and this week was one of those.
On Sunday 30th June 2013, was a wedding fayre slightly different to most others – it was being held at quite an unusual venue – Evoke Nightclub in Chelmsford. These wedding fayres give businesses like us a great platform to show couples planning their wedding the range of Essex wedding photography services offered.
The day started as a bit of a challenge… possibly the hottest day of the year and very hard work lugging around tables, pictures frames, banner stands and large screen television to display a photo slideshow. Once we were in and set up everything was more relaxed and the air conditioning in the venue kept us all cool. Being a new Essex venue for a wedding fayre, we didn’t really have any idea of how many people would be attending on the day and whether it would be a mad flood of bride and grooms, or a steady trickle of people.
Whilst the glorious sunshine was great for everyone outside, it did not help our plight to attract people into the wedding fayre and compete with the many other things that one can spend a sunny Sunday doing. In fact across the day, there were probably not many more than 30 brides that visited the wedding fayre, and to many, this would seem a disappointment and something of a failure. Despite this, the wedding fayre was a both enjoyable and successful for Bloomwood Photography.
We found that although there were not huge numbers of visitors on the day, this gave us the opportunity to spend far more time talking to brides about their wedding plans, the venues which they had booked or were considering, and of course what they were looking for from their wedding photographer. This is important for us, as we get the best from our clients if we get the opportunity to spend time and get to know them and their tastes. Of course, we are not the only Essex wedding photographer to do this, but many people overlook the importance of listening to a client, and instead push their own photographic tastes on people.
We ran a competition at the wedding fayre on the day, offering a free engagement shoot, and any venue across Essex. This proved very popular and it seems many of the people attending completed an application and entered the competition. We will be carrying out the draw and announcing the winner of the competition via our facebook page over the next few days.
For us, this was a successful wedding fayre, and we always enjoy speaking to people about their big day. For those that we met, we hope to speak with you soon discuss your wedding photography requirements, and for those thinking about attending a wedding fayre in the future, perhaps we will see you then!
